El Monte, Los Angeles County
From 1925 to 1942 El Monte was home to Gay's Lion Farm, where trained lions were raised for the movies, and the local high school teams are still called the Lions. In the 1950s teenagers from across Los Angeles came to dances at El Monte Legion Stadium, an era remembered in the doo-wop song Memories of El Monte.
